Symptoms

OneFS generates the event "Internal network link int-a (xyz) down." This alert is an indication that the internal interface is down or (possibly) flapping. Verify that the interface is still down through current logs or live Zoom session.

Cause

This issue is caused due to the following factors:

  • The port on the switch is faulty (most common).
  • The cable is malfunctioning and must be replaced.
  • The interface was manually shut down.
  • The network interface card (NIC) must be replaced.
  • Firmware updates are available for the Isilon.

Resolution

To address this issue, perform the following tasks:

  1. Take the cable and plug it into a different switch port. Verify the interface status on the Isilon by issuing the below command. It should go into an "active" state.
ifconfig
  1. If the first action does not work, proceed by replacing the cable with one that is "known good."
  2. Manually activate the interface using the below command:
ifconfig <interface> up
  1. Schedule a back-end NIC replacement for the specified node.
  2. Update the cluster's firmware package if patches are available.
