Dell Technologies are aware of a scenario where the specified XC systems listed above, running on SATADOM 3IE3 V2, may fail to boot if the device is running on firmware version 301N (S560301N) for an extended time.
During normal operations, SATADOM devices on the system complete a data consistency check following a device reset or power reset. If the consistency check encounters excessive ECC events which cannot be corrected on the device, the firmware of the SATADOM will protect the host from invalid data by disabling the SATADOM. The device will then become unavailable at a BIOS level causing a boot failure of the XC host.
This mechanism will cause the same issue during any of the following processes:
This issue does not affect SATADOMs which are already running firmware version 330N, as background memory block management is implemented in this version.
A fix for this issue was implemented in the 330N (S670330N) firmware release. As of this release, the management of ECC errors is active in the background processes of the SATADOM. The recommended solution for this issue is to update SATADOM firmware to 330N (S670330N).
Current firmware for your device can be obtained from the Lifecycle Manger (LCM). You can find out how to perform this action from the Dell EMC XC940 XC Series Appliance and XC Core System Solutions Guide. An ISO can also be downloaded from the Nutanix website.
Nutanix has published an article with regards to this issue on their customer facing portal. The Nutanix support knowledgebase can be accessed here.
