PowerPath Management Appliance 2.1 SP1 : logrotate errors in PPMA var/log/warn log

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

The PowerPath VA app is reporting logrotate error in /var/log/warn log (in the Management Appliance VM). You may see error messages like:

Feb 20 13:45:03 cgvx000000526 logrotate: error: skipping "/var/log/tomcat7/catalina.out" because parent directory has insecure permissions (It's world writable or writable by group which is not "root") Set "su" directive in config file to tell logrotate which user/group should be used for rotation.

And the World wide permissions for /var/log/tomcat7 directory is 664 - the logrotate.config file states 644.

Cause

Tomcat should have been handling log rotation itself, not offloading to logrotate tool.

Resolution

This will be fixed in PPMA 2.2.
