Symptoms

  • A NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) SQL backup is performed against a SQL cluster.
  • The backup is unable to truncate the SQL transaction logs, and the backup is promoted to full with the following messages reported in the workflow logs:
Unable to find any full backup of the save set "xxxxdb1.dell.com:MSSQL" in the media database. Recommending that a full backup be performed.

Cause

Code changes were introduced in version 19.7.0.x which resulted in this issue.
NetWorker is disabling the reverse lookup. But the cluster-related code is using the virtual IP address instead of the virtual hostname.

Resolution

Workaround:

One of the following options can be used:

1.Add virtual IP address into alias of SQL cluster's virtual hostname on NMC.

NOTE: The aliases field can be found in the "Globals (1 of 2)" tab in the client properties.
2. Create an empty file called "enable_rdns_lookup" under /nsr/debug in the NetWorker server and clients.
