Cause

Protection Storage/Data Domain contains a hostname with two consecutive hyphens which is not supported. Hence Protection storage does not acquire the correct hostname. This is a product limitation.

For Example:
The hostname "ab-cd--efghif.example.com" has two hyphens. This causes an issue.

Resolution

Use a different hostname/FQDN for Protection Storage without two hyphens (--).
Update the DNS forward and reverse lookup entries. 
Retry the deployment with a new hostname.
