Dell EMC VxRail: VCF on VxRail NSX-T upgrade failed in Precheck for Edge Clusters

Symptoms

  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) on VxRail upgrade fails on the pre-check steps for NSX-T Edge Nodes

  • Error message listed in SDDC Manager GUI states:

    NSX-T upgrade failed in precheck for edge clusters. Check for errors in the LCM log files at 127.0.0.1:/var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm, and address those errors. Restart the upgrade

  • Error message listed in NSX-T Manager GUI under 'Edges' section states: 

    Edge transport node status information not found from MP data for edge node <UUID>  when selecting  System > Upgrade > Upgrade Summary > Pre Check Status

Cause

The 'admin' user on NSX-T Edge nodes has an expired password. This can be confirmed by opening an SSH session and logging in to the Edge nodes.

Resolution

Update the expired password on the NSX-T Edge nodes. After updating, set the password back to the original value via the "set user admin" command. Optionally, the password expiration policy can be adjusted afterwards.
