PowerProtect: VMware Protection Rule does not work where VM subfolder have the same folder name

Síntomas

A Customer has a VM vSphere folder structure like below:

|-- CCS
|   |-- APP
|       |-- (VMs)
|-- CS-SQL
|   |-- APP
|        |--(VMs)
|-- HMG -Stale
|   |--Somethingelse

When creating a Protection Rule, there is no mechanism to specify a specific subfolder. For example, if VMs under the CCS\APP VM folder must be specified, this condition is not supported. If the subfolder 'APP" is specified, then the protection rule selects all VMs under VM folders called 'APP'. This is not the desired result.


The problem here is because there are multiple subfolders with the same name called 'APP'. If the VM folder names were unique, then the Protection Rule would select all VMs in the specified VM folder.

Causa

PowerProtect Data Manager does not support VM subfolders.

Resolución

PowerProtect Data Manager does not support VM subfolders.
 workaround to the problem above is to rename the subfolders such that the folder names are unique.
An enhancement request is open to request this functionality in future releases of PowerProtect Data Manager.
