Removing the 3.5-inch hard drive

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the left-side cover.

Steps

  1. Lay the computer on the right side.
  2. Remove the screw (#6-32) that secures the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly to the chassis.
  3. Lift the hard-drive assembly away from the chassis.
  4. Remove the cables from the routing guides on the hard-drive assembly.
  5. Disconnect the data and power cables from the hard drive.
  6. Lift the hard-drive assembly away from the chassis.
  7. Remove the four screws (#6-32) that secure the the hard drive to the hard-drive cage.
  8. Slide the hard drive from the hard-drive cage.
