Removing the System Board

  1. Follow the procedures in Before Working Inside Your Computer .
  2. Remove:
    1. battery

    2. hard drive

    3. keyboard

    4. keyboard door

    5. bottom cover

    6. docking board

    7. optical drive

    8. memory module

    9. GPU module

    10. heatsink

    11. ExpressCard

    12. GPS module

    13. WLAN card

    14. WWAN card

    15. SIM board

  3. Disconnect the cables underneath the keyboard by pressing on the release tab and lifting it upward. [1,2]

  4. Perform the following steps:
    1. Remove the screws that secure the display connector to the system board. [1]
    2. Lift and remove the metal piece that covers the display connector. [2]
    3. Disconnect the display connector cable from the system board. [3]

    • NOTE: All the cables connected to the system board should be disconnected prior to system board removal.
  5. Perform the following steps:
    1. Remove the screws that secure the display ports to the computer chassis. [1]
    2. Remove the screws that secure the system board to the chassis. [2]

  6. Perform the following steps:
    1. Lift and rotate the system board in the direction indicated. [1]
    2. Slide the system board forward and release any other additional connections at the bottom of the chassis. [2]
    3. Disconnect the connector cable underneath the system board by pressing the release tab and lifting it upwards.
    4. Lift and remove the system board from the computer. [3]
