Removing the control panel

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in safety instructions section.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section.
  3. Keep the Phillips #2 screwdriver handy.
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that are shipped with your product.

Steps

  1. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the screw(s) securing the control panel to the chassis.
    CAUTION: Do not use excessive force when removing the control panel as it can damage the connectors.
  2. Remove all the cables connecting the control panel to the system board.
    NOTE: Ensure that you remove the cooling fan assembly before you remove the USB power cable.
  3. From inside the system, push the control panel out of the chassis.

  4. You can remove the vFlash connector/USB connector module from the control panel using the following steps:
    1. Disconnect the control panel cable from the control panel.
    2. Remove the screws that attach the vFlash connector/USB connector module to the control panel.
    3. Pull the vFlash connector/USB connector module to disengage from the control panel module.

  5. Locate and press the tabs on the information tag.
  6. Push the information tag out of the slot to remove it from the control panel.
    NOTE: Retain the information tag for replacement in the new control panel.
