Removal
System Cover
Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
Using a 1/4 inch flat head or a phillips #2 screwdriver rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlock position.
Lift the release latch until the system cover slides back.
Lift the cover from the system.
Air Shroud
Identify the air shroud highlighted in blue.
Hold the edges of the air shroud, and lift the air shroud out of the system.
Processor and heat sink module
Select the processor and heat sink module you want to replace.
Using a torx T30 screwdriver, loosen the first nut two diagonal turns.
Using a torx T30 screwdriver, loosen the screw diagonally opposite to the nut you loosened first.
Set the anti tilt wires to the unlocked position (inward position).
Lift the processor and heat sink module (PHM) from the system and set the PHM aside with the processor side facing up.
Use the alcohol pad to clean the heatsink (as shown in the video).
Processor
Place the heat sink with the processor side facing up.
Identify the processor highlighted in blue.
Using your thumb, lift the thermal interface material (TIM) break lever to release the processor from the TIM and retaining clip.
Holding the processor by the edges, lift the processor away from the retaining clip.
Align the pin 1 indicator on the processor tray with the pin 1 indicator on the processor.
Place the processor connector side down on the processor tray. Ensure pin 1 marks are aligned.
Using your thumb and index finger, hold the retaining clip release tab at the pin 1 connector, pull out and then lift the retaining clip partially from the heat sink.
After all the corners are released from the heat sink, lift the retaining clip from the pin 1 corner of the heat sink.
Install
Processor
Place the heat sink with the processor side facing up.
Identify the processor location highlighted in blue.
Align the pin 1 indicator on the retaining clip with the pin 1 indicator on the processor.
Place the retaining clip on top of the processor in the processor tray aligning pin 1 indicator on the processor.
Install the processor with retaining clip, by using your fingers press the retaining clip on all the four sides until it clicks into place.
Use the thermal grease syringe included with your kit to apply the grease in a thin spiral on the bottom of the heat sink.
Place the heat sink with the processor side aligned to the processor with retaining clip assembly.
Align the pin 1 indicator on the heat sink with the pin 1 indicator on the retaining clip.
Place the heat sink on the processor and press the heat sink until the retaining clip locks onto the heat sink at all the four corners.
Place the heatsink with the processor side facing downwards.
Processor and heat sink module
Confirm the processor and heat sink module you want to replace.
Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
Set the anti tilt wires to the unlocked position on the heat sink (inward position).
Align the pin 1 indicator of the heat sink to the system board, and then place the processor and heat sink on the processor socket.
Set the anti tilt wires to the locked position (outward position).
Using the torx T30 screwdriver, tighten the first two diagonal turns.
Using the torx T30 screwdriver, tighten the screw diagonally opposite to the nut you tightened first.
Air Shroud
Identify the air shroud location highlighted in blue.
Holding the edges of the air shroud, align the tabs on the air shroud with the slots on the system.
Lower the air shroud into the system until it is firmly seated.
System Cover
Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system and slide the system cover.
Close the system cover release latch.
Using a 1/4 inch flat head or phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise to the lock position.
