Why provide this information for a single particular Tablet?

The diagnostic tools and indicators are run and used differently on our Tablet products. The following guide provides information about them as they are used on the Latitude 12 Rugged 7202 Tablet.

How to run the ePSA diagnostics suite

The Dell Enhanced Pre-Boot System Assessment (ePSA) diagnostics run a complete suite of hardware checks on your computer. They are used to assure that all the hardware is in a working condition. This is built into the BIOS and works outside of the Operating system in the Pre-Boot Environment.

You can find out more about the ePSA diagnostics from the following article:

Testing the Hardware using ePSA

The ePSA starts running the Quick Test automatically on all detected hardware without waiting for your input. (Except for the Liquid Crystal (LCD) test which looks for your response to an on-screen question.) To select a specific part to test, you can press the ESC key to cancel the Quick Test and select the Thorough Test Mode instead.

Where to get the diagnostic LED indicators and what they mean for you

On this particular tablet, the diagnostic indicator is a single Light Emitting Diode (LED) on the Power button. It uses both the color and number of pulses of light to communicate fault codes.

This means that the LED indicator consists of two groups of repeated flashes giving numbers for each color:

  • The first number corresponds to the number of Amber LED flashes. (From one to nine blinks)
  • The second number corresponds to the number of White LED flashes. (From one to nine blinks)
  • The code then repeats.
