Removing the keyboard:
Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer .
a)Removing the base cover:
Loosen the screws that secure the base cover to the computer [1].
Lift the base cover from the edge and remove it from the computer [2, 3].
NOTE: You may need a plastic scribe to lift the base cover from the edges.
b)Removing the battery:
Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board [1].
Remove the screws that secure the battery to the computer [2].
Lift the battery away from the computer [3].
Unroute the cable from the routing channel [1] and remove the cable from the battery [2].
NOTE: This step is applicable only for a 4-cell battery.
To remove the keyboard trim:
Disconnect the keyboard cables from the connectors on the system board [1, 2].
Using a plastic scribe, lift the keyboard trim from the edges to release it from the keyboard [3, 4, 5].
To remove the keyboard:
Remove the screws that secure the keyboard to the computer [1].
Lift the keyboard and slide it to remove it from computer [2, 3].
Installing the keyboard:
Align the keyboard with the screw holders on the computer.
Tighten the screws to secure the keyboard to the computer.
Align the keyboard trim with the tabs on the computer and press it until it clicks into place
Connect the keyboard cables to the connectors on the system board.
a)Installing the battery:
NOTE: If your computer supports the 6-cell battery, it will not support a hard drive.
Connect the battery cable to the connector on the battery.
Route the battery cable through the routing channel on the battery.
NOTE: This step is applicable only for a 4-cell battery.
Insert the battery into the slot on the computer.
Tighten the screws to secure the battery to the computer.
Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.
b)Installing the base cover:
Align the base cover with the screw holders on the computer.
Press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
Tighten the screws to secure the base cover to the computer.
After working inside your computer:
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the computer, use only the battery designed for this particular Dell computer. Do not use batteries designed for other Dell computers.
Connect any external devices, such as a port replicator or media base, and replace any cards, such as an ExpressCard.
Connect any telephone or network cables to your computer.
CAUTION: To connect a network cable, first plug the cable into the network device and then plug it into the computer.
Replace the battery.
Replace the base cover.
Connect your computer and all attached devices to their electrical outlets.
Turn on your computer.
