Mouse

A mouse is one of the primary input devices for a computer that allows you to control the cursor or mouse pointer to select text, icons, files, and more. A mouse can be connected to a computer using USB, Bluetooth, or a dedicated wireless USB dongle. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, the suggested quick steps might help.​

  • The cursor moves slowly or erratically
  • The cursor does not move or respond when you click the mouse buttons
  • The cursor disappears​

Here are a few quick steps that you can take to resolve your mouse issue

Try each step and check if your mouse issue is resolved. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next step.

  1. Reseat the USB cable of the mouse or the wireless USB receiver that came with the mouse. If it is a Bluetooth mouse, verify that the Bluetooth mouse is paired with the computer.
  2. For wireless or Bluetooth mouse, install new batteries.
  3. Save any data, close any open programs, and restart the computer.​
  4. Optimize your Dell computer using the SupportAssist application that is installed on your computer.​ If SupportAssist is not available on your computer, proceed to the next step.
  5. Go to Dell.com/support/drivers, download and install the latest BIOS and latest drivers for your Dell computer.
  6. ​Download and install the latest operating system updates.
  7. Run the SupportAssist hardware test on the mouse. If the test fails, contact Dell Technical Support.
