Welcome to this tutorial on optimizing your webcam experience with Dell Display and Peripheral Manager, or DDPM. With DDPM Personalizing your webcam settings has never been easier. You can tailor your video experience for professional meetings, virtual events, or casual chats.
To get started, select the webcam from the DDPM and home screen to open the overview page, where you can access settings and customization options. Here, you'll see an image from your device along with details like the device model name, firmware version, connectivity type, and more.
For quick customization of your on-screen look, choose one of Dell’s image presets—like Default, Smooth, Vibrant, and Warm. You could also create a custom preset for a personalized touch. You'll also find tabs like Camera Control, Color and Image, Presence Detection, and Capture. Under the Camera Control tab, enable AI Auto Framing to keep you centered in the frame as you move. When enabled, you can adjust tracking sensitivity, framing size, and camera transition.
You can also adjust the camera's Field of View by selecting an angle, manually zoom in on your image, and use the directional controls on your webcam feed to center the frame. With autofocus turn on your webcam automatically adjust focus based on movement or objects. You can also turn off autofocus for manual control. Under Priority to maintain the ideal level of light. You can choose between Exposure or Frame Rate prioritization.
Selecting Exposure ensures optimal lighting, while choosing Frame Rate prioritizes smoother video playback. Use the prioritized External Camera setting to set your Dell external webcam as the default, automatically disabling other connected cameras. When set to off, you can choose the camera to use when accessing applications like Zoom and Teams. In the Color Image tab, fine-tune your video appearance.
Enable HDR and Auto White Balance for true-to-life colors in different lighting conditions. Use sliders to adjust your webcam’s brightness, sharpness, contrast, and saturation settings. If you notice flickering under artificial lighting, adjust the Anti flicker Power Line Frequency setting to resolve it. Note that settings like AI Auto Framing and HDR are enabled only when connected via USB 3.0.
The Presence Detection tab provides security and convenience features, such as Walk Away Lock, which automatically locks your PC when you step away, and Wake on Approach, allowing you to quickly sign in with Windows Hello when you return. For video recording, the Capture tab allows you to adjust frames per second and resolution or enable features like Recording Countdown and Framing Grid for more precise recordings. You can also view the location where your recordings are saved.
To access the folder, click Open. To choose a different location, select Change. If your camera has an integrated microphone, you can control it by going to the Audio tab then toggle it on or off as needed. Whenever an update is available for DDPM or the Webcam firmware, the gear icon will light up.
