If you're looking for a complete point of sale solution that includes the software and hardware you need, you've likely already come across the Dell Complete POS package.
However, without a dedicated IT staff, how do you set it up? Download the step-by-step instructions at www.dell.com/pos and follow along with our Dell retail expert.
One of the more important things setting up your retail system is where you're going to put it. It takes up a lot of space and not easy to move. We need to set it in a location where it's going to stay. Today we'll look at setting up the Retail Integrator.
This is going to come in its own box as well as your computer, your keyboards, your mice, your monitor, all in individual boxes. They're going to have a PO on them. On that PO you're going to look to see what's in that box. Wait until you have everything together before you set it up.
This is the integrator. It's going to come with a sheet of instructions as well as multiple bags worth of cables. Keep these bags of cables. They're very important for setting up the whole system. They are what we're going to use instead of a lot of the cables that's shipped with the peripherals.
Any peripheral that has a power, cable keep that power cable. However, the extra loose data cables, you don't need to use them in this particular setup. Put them in a safe place so you can use them later if you need to. We've brought in a cash drawer to show our setup of the integrator.
Cash drawer is going to be the first thing you put into the integrator. After you've unpacked the cash drawer you're going to look at the bottom of the cash drawer.
It's going to have a cable taped to it. Remove this cable. Unplug it. And we're going to replace it with one of the small cables that's shipped with the integrator. It says APG cash drawer on it and it's a replacement for this one here. Makes things easier.
You'll notice we've replaced the cash drawer cable with the one that came with the integrator. This is a smaller one. We've routed it through the back of the integrator, and now we're going to set the cash drawer down. Paying special attention not to lose that cable and slide it into the integrator.
As we mentioned earlier you need to pay special attention to the cash drawer cable and route it through a small notch in the back of the integrator. This will make sure that the integrator closes properly. If you'll notice, we've brought in our OptiPlex desktop system. This is an ultra small form factor.
It's the only one that's going to fit into our integrator. They're all powered by Intel processors, we're going to use this as the base of our system. First thing we need to do is put it into the integrator. Slides right in. Next we're going to take the parts marked deposit tabs and put them into the corresponding holes next to the OptiPlex.
These are going to serve the purpose of securing the OptiPlex in place so it doesn't move during use. Next we'll run the power for the system. We'll take the power strip that was shipped with the system and take the adhesive off the back of the power strip. Once that's removed, we'll place it next to the OptiPlex.
The next piece of hardware for our system is the keyboard. You can order many different keyboards with your point of sale system; however, for our purposes we've gone with the cherry point of sale keyboard. The cherry keyboard has a sled with it.
It's what we set the keyboard on. You'll notice it's got a diagram on here on how to properly route the cable. We'll route the cable starting at one and ending at 10. And that way we'll be ready to use it. Now that our wiring is done we'll slide the keyboard firmly into place next we're going to plug in the peripherals loaded with the system.
All the peripherals plug into the OptiPlex with standard USB connection and we'll plug them into the back and pay special attention to, plug the cash drawer cable into the receipt printer. Next we'll put in the top and the front portions of the integrator. The slots up top fit into the tabs there.
There's two of them on each side. And then we'll put the front on. The front takes special care to ensure that the hole lines up with your power button. We've turned our integrator around to make this next part easier.
We've also unplugged all our peripherals. Our peripherals would normally be plugged into at this point. If you ordered pole display with your system or state requires them we'll show you how to install it. First take the USB cable attached to the pole display and thread it through this hole.
You're going to pull all of the slack through. If you'll notice we've got a small platform down here that we can fit our pole display right on. Then take your time and display the pole display how you want to. We've turned the integrator back around so you can see this from the front. Next we add our monitor.
For this we've gone with a Dell touch screen with the MSR on the side. We'll go ahead and route the cable in the back. And using the ties that were shipped with this integrator, we'll clean up all the cabling in the back.
Once the cabling's been cleaned up, we'll close the integrator and snap the back into place. Hopefully the setup instructions were useful. And we welcome your feedback in our community forums at www.Dell.com/community.
