In this video, we will demonstrate how to capture a Reference image for backup using Additional Tools. Image Assist allows you to capture a Reference image that can be used as a snapshot or restore point. This image is not syspreped and is not valid for factory use. Also, you cannot select drivers when you are restoring a Reference image.
Note that if you have created a virtual machine snapshot or checkpoint, you need not capture a Reference image. Image Assist automatically captures an image while creating the Dynamic image. For more information, see the video titled Capture and restore a Dynamic image using Image Assist.
Optionally, you can also use the Additional Tools option to capture a Reference image. In this video, we will see how to capture a Reference image using Additional Tools. To begin, on the ImageAssist home page, click the gear icon and click Additional Tools. In the Capture Reference Image card, click CAPTURE.
Next, click RUN to capture the Reference image. After the capture process is complete, the system is restarted, and the Reference Image is prepared to be captured. To auto capture the image, click CAPTURE NOW or wait for the capture process to start automatically.
After the image is captured, click BROWSE, select a folder, and then click COPY to save the WIM file to a USB drive or to another location. To detect the image automatically while restoring the image, save the image in the Dell Images folder. Note the path where the file is saved and click SHUT DOWN to turn off the system.
