Second, save and review your product manual on dell.com/manuals. This video provides a general overview, but some systems may have slight differences. If you encounter any issues, refer to your manual for additional information.
Third, locate a standard Phillips head screwdriver. To get started, disconnect all external cables from your notebook, and remove the battery.
Press the "Power" button to discharge any remaining power stored in the system. Loosen the two captive screws that secure the bottom base cover to the bottom base.
Pull up the top edge of the bottom base cover and remove it from the notebook. Locate the hard drive and remove the two screws securing the hard drive in place.
Grasp and slide the hard drive out of the notebook. Remove the hard drive bracket by removing the two screws securing it to the hard drive.
Attach the hard drive bracket on the replacement drive and replace the screws securing it. Slide the hard drive back into the notebook. Replace the bottom base cover, and secure it with the captive screws.
For some systems, the hard drive can be removed without removing the back panel. Remove the hard drive securing screw instead, then slide the drive out.
