This video shows how to replace the memory module on a Latitude 3450. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and back up all data. Disconnect all attached peripherals. Then enter Service Mode. To enter Service Mode, press and hold B, and then press the power button. The computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.
To begin, first loosen the nine captive screws that secure the base cover to the chassis. Then use a plastic scribe to pry the cover starting from the recesses near the hinges. Pry open the top side, then the left, right, and bottom, and lift it off the chassis. If your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn over your computer and open the display. Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
To remove the memory module, pull the retention clips away until the module pops up slightly. and slide it from the slot. To replace the memory module, align the notch on the module with the tab on the slot. Slide it into the slot at an angle and press down until it clicks. If you disconnected the battery cable, reconnect it before continuing.
Now, align the base cover and snap it on to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Then, tighten the nine captive screws to secure it to the chassis. Now connect the power adapter. Finally, press the power button to turn on the computer and exit Service Mode. Note: The computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
