This video shows how to replace the memory on the XPS 8950. Before you begin, power off the system and disconnect all the attached peripherals. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the system.
To begin, loosen the captive screw that secures the left-side cover latch, then pull on the latch to release the cover from the chassis. Holding the left-side cover firmly on both sides, lift the left-side cover from the chassis.
Place the computer on its side. To remove the memory, carefully spread apart the securing-clips on each end of the memory-module slot. Grasp the memory module near the securing clip, and then gently ease the memory module out of the memory-module slot.
Repeat this procedure for each memory module installed on your system board as needed. To install the new memory, insert the memory module into the memory-module connector.
Press down on the memory module until the securing clip locks in place. Repeat this procedure for each memory module to be installed on your system board.
Note: To achieve dual-channel support for dual memory configurations install the memory modules in the following memory slots. Now, place the computer in an upright position Holding the left-side cover firmly on both sides, place the bottom edge of the left-side cover into the chassis and press the left-side cover into place.
