This video demonstrates how to reset your Dell computer using both the "Reset This PC" feature in Windows 11 and SupportAssist OS Recovery. You'll learn how to keep your files, reinstall Windows, and select between a factory reset or an update reset. Follow the steps to ensure a successful reset and restore your system to its original state.
Before you reset your computer, please note that this process will erase your data. So we recommend backing up your system before continuing with these steps. Make sure you keep the system connected to its power source throughout this entire process.
Click on the Windows start button, type reset this PC into the search bar and open the result. Next to reset this PC click on the button that says reset PC. In the pop-up that appears, select Keep My File. Choose either cloud download or local reinstall.
If you don't have an internet connection, choose local. In this case, we are going to choose cloud download. Click next and then reset when prompted to start the process. When the reinstallation finishes, you can log into Windows. To recover your system with support Assist OS recover. Restart your computer. When the Dell logo appears, repeatedly tap the F12 key to access the one time boot menu.
Select the support assist OS recovery option. If your computer has the recovery image tool pre-installed, you will be brought directly to the support assist OS recovery home page. If the recovery image is not pre-installed, you will be prompted to connect to the internet.
Once you are connected, Support Assist will download the recovery image tool for you. When the image is downloaded, the system will reboot and automatically load the support assist OS recovery environment. In the homepage, click on the network icon in the top right corner and make sure you are connected to the internet. If you're not connected, choose and connect to a network.
Go back to the homepage and click on start reset. Depending on your device, you may be presented with two options. Option one is reset to factory settings. This will revert the computer back to the state it was in when it was shipped from the factory. Option 2 is reset and update, which will download and install the latest operating system on your computer along with critical drivers and updates.
Select your recovery option and click next. Then choose if you want support assist to transfer your data and settings to the new installation. If you are having issues with Windows or want to get rid of corrupted settings, we recommend selecting no to erase your previous data.
Once you choose, click next. On the following screen, confirm the reset and that you understand your data will be lost. Choose the storage device where you want to install Windows and click next. Confirm the information and click next. The reset process will now start. After the process is complete, click restart to reboot your computer. The system will reboot into Windows. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
