Now, here are some tips to improve your computer's battery life and performance. One of the easiest things you can do to conserve battery life is adjust the brightness level. Locate the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and click on it. In the pop-up window, use the slider bar to adjust the brightness level of your display. The lower the brightness level, the better the battery life. You can also preserve battery life by turning off your Bluetooth if you’re not using it. In the same pop-up, click on the “Bluetooth” button to deactivate or reactivate Bluetooth.
For comprehensive battery saving, make adjustments to the power and battery settings. Click on the battery icon in the taskbar and then click on the small battery icon showing the remaining battery percentage. This will open the “Power & battery” settings menu. In the “Power mode” section, you can choose between three modes: “Best power efficiency,” which extends battery life while sacrificing performance; “Balanced,” which maintains a balance between performance and power consumption; and “Best performance,” which provides maximum performance but impacts battery life the most. Also in the “Power” section, go to “Screen and sleep” to adjust the time before your screen turns off and when your device goes to sleep. Adjust these settings for both when your system is running on battery and when it is plugged in.
In the “Battery” section, turn on the “Battery saver” mode or configure it to automatically activate at a specific battery percentage. The “Battery saver” mode will maximize battery life but affect performance. You can see which apps are affecting your battery life the most and limit their activity if necessary. Click on “Battery usage,” then the three dots next to the app you want to adjust, and select “Manage background activity.” Under “Background apps permissions,” use the drop-down “Let this app run in background” to select one of three options: “Power optimized,” “Always,” or “Never.” “Power optimized” lets Windows decide the background activity based on the power mode selected, “Always” lets the app run constantly in the background, consuming battery, and “Never” means the app will only run while being actively used.
