Symptoms

An administrator attempts to log in to PPDM using a Windows Active Directory account. The login fails with the following error:

Failed to authenticate the user with the identity provider. Please check for any network connectivity issues with the external identity provider if configured. Also, check for expired certificates or credential issues with the configured provider.

Local PPDM accounts will still authenticate successfully, and only Active Directory accounts are affected.

Cause

The certificate from the Active Directory server has passed its expiration date. PPDM validates the AD server certificate during authentication. An expired certificate causes the validation to fail and rejects the authentication request.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the PPDM console using a local administrator account.
  2. Navigate to Administration → Certificates → External Servers.
  3. Select the radio button beside the Active Directory server.
  4. Click Renew.
  5. Confirm the certificate updates successfully.
  6. Log out and log back in using the Active Directory account.
  7. Confirm the authentication completes without errors.
