XtremIO: IP Link Down or Initializing (XTR4200101, XTR4200103)
Summary: XtremIO: IP Link Down or Initializing (XTR4200101, XTR4200103) (Customer and Dell Correctable)
Symptoms
Verify that the network is healthy and that there are no relevant alerts for the local and remote side clusters.
A Service Request (SR) will not automatically trigger for the alerts mentioned in this KB article.
The following alerts may trigger for IP Links used for remote protection:
| Symptom Code | Alert Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| XTR4200101 | alert_def_ip_link_state_down | The IP link is down. |
| XTR4200103 | alert_def_ip_link_state_initializing | The IP link is initializing. |
These alerts are enabled by default.
Cause
The condition of this alert may be raised due to network, cluster (local or remote clusters), or port issues.
The alert alert_def_ip_link_state_initializing (4200103) occurs when the link initializes and when system attempts to recover from a link down state.
OR
After setting up Native Replication, one or more IP links remain in an initializing state.
This issue may occur when:
The network switch port configuration is in access mode, and the Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is tagged to it.
Or
The switch port is in VLAN truck mode and no VLAN ID is assigned in the iSCSI portal.
Resolution
A disabled IP link does not report the alerts mentioned in this KB article. If an IP link is not expected to be used, for example, if an IP link is under maintenance, then the IP link can be disabled (and enabled) using the admin-level XMCLI command modify-remote-protection-ip-link.
See KB Article XtremIO X2: Alert Raised for Disabled IP Link (XTR4200202 and XTR4200202) (Customer and Dell EMC Correctable) for more information about disabling and enabling IP links.
Customers must confirm if the network switch port configuration is in Access Mode or VLAN Trunk Mode. If it is VLAN mode, provide a VLAN ID to the replication port in the iSCSI portal. Otherwise, the default value is 0 (no VLAN) should be assigned for access mode.
See XtremIO: How to Configure and Troubleshoot Remote Protection Links for more information about troubleshooting IP links.
