Dell Networking PowerSwitch N3200TE Operating Temperature and Alarm Threshold
Summary: This article contains information regarding the operating temperatures of Dell Networking N3200TE switches and alarm thresholds. It describes the relationship between the U47 Near NPU Ambient Temperature sensor and the U28 Approximate NPU Temperature sensor. ...
Instructions
In systems monitoring environments, the U47 sensor is used to report temperature data, which is reflected in command outputs. When interpreting this data, it is important to recognize that the operable temperature range for the U47 sensor is 45°C to 77°C. Monitoring configurations should be set to flag any readings outside this range as potential anomalies, enabling timely responses to thermal deviations that could affect system performance or hardware reliability.

1. SNMP MIB Alarm Reference (U28 NPU Core Temp):
- The SNMP MIBs os10AlmMinorTempHigh and os10AlmMajorTempHigh are based on the U28 Temp Sensor, which monitors the NPU Core Temperature.
- Below 105°C is considered as normal operating zone.
- The fault detection range for U28 is defined between 105°C and 110°C.
2. Fan Control Reference:
- The fan speed control logic is governed by the U47 Temp Sensor, which monitors the Near NPU Ambient Temperature (located adjacent to the NPU).
3. Normal Operation Range (U47):
- When U47 temperature is in the range of 45°C to 77°C, it is considered to be in the normal operating zone.
- Fan control operates within Zone 0 to Zone 4, with speeds adjusted gradually based on U47’s temperature, as defined in software configuration.
- The fault detection range for U47 is defined between 78°C and 83°C.
4. Fault Operation Zone (U47 or U28):
- If either U47 or U28 exceeds their defined safe operating thresholds, the system transitions into the fault zone.
- In fault zone, fan speed is forced to maximum (100%), corresponding to Zone 4 operation, to protect the hardware from thermal damage.
