Symptoms

After upgrading Linux client version from 7.x to 19.3 or 19.4, the avagent service fails once started or does not start at all.

In the avagent.log.

Cause

AvamarClient-linux-sles12.xxxx was installed.
The SLES-12 RPM packages are not intended for a regular client upgrade. It causes issues with openSSL.

Resolution

Install the Avamar Client SLES11 package.
AvamarClient-linux-sles11-x86_64-19.x.rpm

The Avamar Client SLES11 package has the statically linked openSSL libraries. This is required for the client-side Avamar installation to work correctly.
