Symptoms

ESXi host VMkernel logs (/var/run/log/vmkernel.*) show events: 
2024-03-11T12:40:58.098Z cpu35:2076662)esx_splitter: KL_ERROR:937: #0 - MPI_handler_sent_keepalive: Command failed
2024-03-11T12:54:58.111Z cpu21:2076662)esx_splitter: KL_ERROR:937: #0 - MPI_handler_sent_keepalive: Command failed

Cause

Splitter and RecoverPoint Appliances (RPAs) communicate using the Message Passing Protocol (MPI). Sometimes the command to verify the connection is alive may fail.

Resolution

Resolution:
This event is benign and has no impact.

If there are other splitter-related errors, such as "DEGRADED" state errors, it needs investigation.
