Symptoms
At least one clustered VM is not listed in the Roles tab of Failover Cluster Manager. The VM in question appears in Hyper-V Manager on one of the cluster nodes. However, Hyper-V Manager indicates that some of the VM's settings cannot be modified because it is clustered.
Cause
This can occur if the VM's display name has changed since its creation.
Resolution
The affected VM may be listed in the Roles tab under a different name. This is more likely on a cluster that hosts many VMs than one that hosts only a few. To determine whether this is the case, follow these steps:
- On a cluster node, launch an elevated PowerShell prompt.
- Run the command:
Get-ClusterResource
- Check the Name column of the output for the affected VM.
- If the affected VM is listed in the output, it is present in the cluster.
- The name in the OwnerGroup column shows the name by which the VM is listed in Failover Cluster Manager. If necessary, confirm that it is the correct VM by connecting to it.
- In Failover Cluster Manager, right-click the VM (using the name shown in step 5) and select Properties.
- Correct the VM's display name and click OK. It should now be listed as expected.
