This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

XMP Profile 1 option applies then return to default after boot failure three times.

Affected Platform:

  1. Alienware Area-51 AAT2250

Cause

The BIOS OcFailsafe flag can only be cleared in the Alienware Command Center (AWCC). The system cannot boot to the OS to hand off the flag, so it stays active. As a result, the XMP is set back to Disabled because the system thinks the Failsafe situation is still present.

Resolution

The OCFailSafe flag is only cleared in the AWCC when the value is read. If the flag is cleared before the OS phase, AWCC does not know that a Failsafe occurred. If AWCC is not installed and the OC failsafe is triggered, the user cannot enable the OC feature. Therefore, users should be guided to reinstall AWCC.
