Symptoms

PowerProtect Data Manager는 TSDM(Transparent Snapshot Data Mover) 솔루션으로 vSphere 환경을 보호하는 데 사용됩니다. 클러스터의 ESXi 호스트에 대해 VIB(vSphere Installation Bundle)가 성공적으로 배포되었습니다. VM(가상 머신) 백업이 오류 코드 ABV0016와 함께 간헐적으로 실패합니다. PowerProtect Data Manager 사용자 인터페이스에는 다음이 표시됩니다.

ABV0016: VM Direct engine 'localhost' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'my-vm-name' on vCenter 'my-vcernter-name' because of a vCenter API issue.

The VM Direct engine cannot complete the backup of this virtual machine because of a vCenter API operation did not complete successfully.

To troubleshoot this issue: 1) Verify that the vCenter can be reached. 2) If the vCenter is busy, wait for some activities to complete and then retry the operation. 3) Verify that the virtual machine exists on the vCenter.

Cause

영향을 받는 VM을 호스팅하는 ESXi 하이퍼바이저에서 DPD(Data Protection Daemon) 서비스가 시작되지 않습니다. vMotion이 영향을 받는 VM을 중지된 DPD 서비스를 사용하여 ESXi 하이퍼바이저로 이동할 때 이 문제가 간헐적으로 발생했습니다.

Resolution

클러스터의 모든 ESXi 호스트에서 DPD 서비스가 시작되었는지 확인합니다. 서비스가 중지된 경우 DPD 서비스 및 시작 옵션을 선택합니다.

ESXi 호스트에 대한 SSH 세션을 사용하여 DPD 서비스를 재시작할 수도 있습니다. 
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd status
dpd is stopped
[root@my_esx:~] /etc/init.d/dpd start
