PowerFlex: SDC Installation Fails Or Cannot Be Loaded
Summary: Installation of the SDC package fails, or the SDC driver cannot be loaded.
Symptoms
SDC kernel driver cannot be loaded. One of the following conditions applies:
- First installation attempt of an SDC on a host
- Hardware changes made to a node affecting or resetting BIOS configuration.
- Virtual hardware may have pre-configured BIOS options.
Initial module installation: During an SDC package installation attempt, the below errors can be seen in the output of journalctl -xe.
Existing module load: On a Linux host, when loading the SDC kernel module, scini, into the kernel, the following errors are displayed.
insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /bin/emc/scaleio/scini.ko: Required key not available
insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /bin/emc/scaleio/scini_sync/driver_cache/RH/4.5.2000.125/5.14.0-284.11.1.el9_2.x86_64/scini.ko: Key was rejected by service
The error messages and behavior may differ on platforms other than Linux.
Impact
SDC cannot be installed or loaded.
Cause
The Secure Boot option is enabled in a physical or virtual host's BIOS.
The BIOS Secure Boot option, when enabled, prevents modules without valid keys from being loaded into the kernel.
Resolution
Disable the Secure Boot option in the BIOS.
Physical hardware:
For detailed instructions, see the hardware vendor's documentation.
Virtual hardware:
Disable Secure Boot in the Boot Options of the VM settings.
