Instructions

Dell Technologies recommends using SupportAssist OS Recovery for an optimal restore experience. If SupportAssist OS Recovery is not supported on your device, you can use these steps to restore your operating system to factory conditions. For more information about SupportAssist OS Recovery see KB article, Restore your Computer Using SupportAssist OS Recovery.

Reinstall your operating system using Windows Push-Button Reset:

  1. At the Start menu, type "Reset this PC" and select Reset this PC in System settings.
  2. Under Recovery options, click Reset PC.
  3. Choose between Keep my files or Remove everything.
Note: The Keep my files option is easiest when attempting to repair the operating system. Use Remove everything if you are preparing to sell or otherwise change ownership of the device.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the refresh of the operating system.

If you are unable to restore Windows using the steps above, you must reinstall the operating system from recovery media. The Dell OS Recovery Tool can create an image of Windows to reinstall from a USB drive. See KB article Reinstall Windows using the Dell OS Recovery Image for more information.
