Symptoms
The external monitor flickers when the laptop changes power state
Flickers, white lines, or on-screen garbage can be seen on your external monitor under the following circumstances:
- The external monitor is connected through a WD19 or WD19S docking station.
- The dock is connected to a Dell 16 DC16251 laptop.
- The on-screen lasts for a split-second whenever the laptop changes power states between sleep, hibernate, restart, or shutting down to off.
Cause
There is a brief signal drop during the power state change. The on-screen issue occurs during this signal drop. This is due to the Multi-Stream Transport (MST) dock being designed to use a line buffer.
Resolution
Note: The hardware is all working as designed.
This is the expected behavior from the monitor under these circumstances. It only happens for a brief moment when making a power-state change. It does not affect using any of these hardware devices in any way.
