Instructions
Alerts are sent when preset conditions are met. There are two types of alerts that can be generated:
Managed alerts remain in the current alerts list until the underlying condition is corrected. For example, if a faulty disk drive triggers a failure alert, the alert remains active on the system until the drive is replaced. Each type of alert maintains only one message in the current alerts list. If the same alert is triggered multiple times for the same condition, only the most recent alert is in the current list.
- Managed alerts, which generally require action to correct
- Unmanaged alerts, which are informational
Managed Alerts
Managed alerts remain in the current alerts list until the underlying condition is corrected. For example, if a faulty disk drive triggers a failure alert, the alert remains active on the system until the drive is replaced. Each type of alert maintains only one message in the current alerts list. If the same alert is triggered multiple times for the same condition, only the most recent alert is in the current list.
To check for current alerts on a system, run the following command:
#alerts show current
To display detailed information about active alerts on a Data Domain system, run the following command:
#alerts show current-detailed alert-id <alert-id-number>
Unmanaged Alerts
Unmanaged alerts are visible in the alerts history but are not visible in the current alerts.
An example is the information alert. To view the history of all alerts on a system, run one of the following commands:
# alerts show history
(or)
# alerts show history [last <n> {hours | days | weeks | months }]
Alternatively, connect to the DD system's WebGUI interface by pointing a browser to the IP address of the affected system. Active alerts are displayed on Home > Dashboard. They can also be found by selecting the Alerts option from the Health menu.
