Avamar: How to back up a database which Avamar does not explicitly support

Avamar cannot create a consistent backup of the database while it is running if the database is not supported. An unsupported database is not listed on the section "Avamar COMPONENT FOR DATABASES and APPLICATIONS" in the E-lab Navigator - Avamar web page,
 
To back up databases which do not have explicit support use the database vendor's native tools to dump the database to a flat file. The Avamar file system plug-in can be used to backup up flat files. Explicit support is identified as a database that avamar has a plug-in for.

Some database maintenance activities are triggered by script.
  • If so, use the Avamar prescript and postscript functionality. This enables database maintenance activities to trigger before and after the Avamar backup runs.
  • An example is quiescing the database prior to backup and, after the backup has restarted, bringing the database it back online.
Database Recovery:

To recover the database, restore the flat file from Avamar to the database server. Use the database vendor's own tools to import the flat file as a live database.
Consult the database vendor for assistance when performing database recovery in this way.
