To back up databases which do not have explicit support use the database vendor's native tools to dump the database to a flat file. The Avamar file system plug-in can be used to backup up flat files. Explicit support is identified as a database that avamar has a plug-in for.
Some database maintenance activities are triggered by script.
Some database maintenance activities are triggered by script.
- If so, use the Avamar prescript and postscript functionality. This enables database maintenance activities to trigger before and after the Avamar backup runs.
- An example is quiescing the database prior to backup and, after the backup has restarted, bringing the database it back online.
Database Recovery:
To recover the database, restore the flat file from Avamar to the database server. Use the database vendor's own tools to import the flat file as a live database.
Consult the database vendor for assistance when performing database recovery in this way.
