Instructions

To re-direct the Avamar client cache files to a different location, please do the following procedures.
  1. Create an avtar.cmd file in the %Program Files\avs\var directory on the client.
  2. Add the following flag --vardir=<<folder location>> i.e. --vardir=D:\Avamar.  Alternatively, you can use the the --cachedir flag, which works the same way.
  3. Copy the existing the cache files (*.dat) from the existing var directory into the new folder.
When the next backup occurs, the client backup logs will be generated in the new folder.

Additional Information

Make sure that the new location has enough free space to accommodate potentially huge cache files, particular paging cache for backups to Data Domain.

The --vardir flag also exists for the avagent service. This flag will re-direct the avagent.log file to the new directory.
