Procedure to lock down Avamar backups to store backup data on Data Domain only:

1. Log in to the Avamar Utility Node as admin.

2. Make a backup copy of the mcserver.xml file:

cp -p /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_/data/prefs/mcserver.xml /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_/data/prefs/x-mcserver.xml.`date +%y%m%d`

3. Edit the mcserver.xml file:

vi /usr/local/avamar/var/mc/server_/data/prefs/mcserver.xml

4. Modify the entry key dd_only_mode:

From:

<entry key="dd_only_mode" value="DATASET"

To:

<entry key="dd_only_mode" value="ALL"

5. Save and exit file.

6. Restart the Management Console Server (MCS) per Avamar: How to Restart Management Console Server.

7. Verify all services are running:

dpnctl status

8. Take an MCS flush (aka backup):

mcserver.sh --flush

Ensure that no errors are reported.

9. Optionally: Log in to Avamar Administration UI and run a test backup directing the backup data to Avamar (Advanced options). If this backup fails with an error, changes have been successfully applied.
