Instructions

According to the Dell EMC Unity. Design, this operation cannot be executed.

When we create a consistency group for purpose of consistency, configuring replication for the CG sets replication on CG level and used for all LUNs within the CG for consistency .

So, adding a new or existing LUN to the existing CG with replication enabled will make group inconsistent.

Creating another CG with the new LUN is the only solution as adding a LUN to an existing CG with replication enabled is not allowed.

You could delete the Replication session on the source array Consistency Group and then delete the Consistency Group on the destination array to allow more LUNs to be added to an existing Consistency group, but that would also trigger a new full Sync operation.

Also we cannot add LUNs to Consistency Group if this CG has clone.

Resolution:

  • Delete the clone related to the CG.
  • Add new LUNs to the clone for CG.

This is on Code 4.2.1 and earlier. Code 4.3 has not been tested yet, but it is assumed that the design will not change. This KB will be updated if this changes.
