Avamar - Unable to open socket connection to NDMP server

Symptoms

- avsetupndmp fails when configuring Isilon NDMP backups on the accelerator node

- Error:
Starting setup for EMC Isilon
Network address or DNS name of the EMC Isilon [filer.company.com]: filer_ip
Password for "ndmp" on "filer_ip":
Repeat password:
Password encoding scheme ("md5" or "text") to use for "filer_ip" [md5]: md5
Checking username and password... avndmp Error <11889>: [/usr/local/avamar/bin/avndmp] Unable to open socket connection to NDMP server: 172.20.xx.xx
avndmp Error <11864>: [/usr/local/avamar/bin/avndmp] Unable to retrieve server info due to connection error.
avndmp Error <9506>: [/usr/local/avamar/bin/avndmp] Failed to authenticate ndmp on filer_ip
avndmp returning with exitcode 151
Authentication error, invalid password.
Do you wish to reenter the password Y/N? [Y]:

Cause

NDMP protocol is disabled by default in Isilon and because of that the setup on the accelerator node fails.

Resolution

- Enable NDMP protocol in Isilon

   From the OneFS GUI:
     - Log to the Isilon OneFS GUI
     - Click on Data Protection
     - Click on Backup
     - Click on NDMP settings
     - Go to Service and Click on Enabled
     - Setting should look like:
        Port Number: 10000
        DMA vendor: generic

  From Command line:
    - Log to Isilon using putty
    - Run:
 isi services ndmpd enable
    - Run: 
isi ndmp settings global view

-the output  should look like:
