Symptoms

SourceOne Search results return what appears to be duplicate copies of the same message.
These messages all originate from an External Sender Domain and contain multiple internal recipients.

Cause

This is due to how messages are bifurcated in the sender environment resulting in multiple copies of the message actually being received by the recipient mail enviornment.  As these are each unique messages received by the environment SourceOne archives them as such.

Example:
1. A single message is sent from Domain A to 4 users in Domain B.
2. Domain A creates and sends 4 separate copies of the message to Domain B, one for each recipient.  This can be seen in the message Mapi properties PR_Transport_Message_Header in Exchange environments.
3. Domain B receives 4 messages and journals each copy.
4. SourceOne archives all 4 messages, and due to them being unique in the mail environment and have completely different values for multiple Mapi properties they are not de-duplicated during archiving.

Resolution

Confirm the MessageID of each message thought to be duplicate, if they are unique the following  Exchange properties can be checked and if they are different, the messages are not duplicates:

1. PR_Internet_Message_ID

2. PR_search_key

3. PR_Transport_message_Header

The Message properties can be checked using MFCMapi Tool.
