VNX: How to disable automatic file transfer feature and change auto transfer status check to informational (Dell EMC Correctable)

Symptoms

Disable automatic file transfer feature.

By default in present code release PAHC (proactive health check) flag "Check auto transfer status" check as warning after disabling automatic file transfer feature.

Action :

EMC recommends the automatic transfer feature to be enabled via
command:

/nas/tools/automaticcollection -enable

or from Unisphere:

1. Select VNX -> System tab -> Click the link "Automatic Log Transfer for File" under "Service Tasks"
2. Select Enable Automatic Transfer.
3. Click Apply.

By default, support materials will be transferred to ftp.emc.com, but you can modify the location in the /nas/site/automaticcollection.cfg file. For more information, search the Knowledgebase on Powerlink as follows:
1. Log in to http://support.emc.com and go to Support > Knowledgebase Search> Support Solutions Search.
2. Use ID emc221733 to search.

Cause

Customer security policy prohibit the use of either SFTP or FTP protocol using VNX control station for uploading files to Dell EMC FTP server.

Resolution

This warning notification from nas_checkup is expected and can be safely ignored when automatic file transfer is not in used. However this warning notification can be modified and be change to informational if you do have a clear reason to avoid this message and this changes will need to be reapply after each upgrade, please reach out to Dell EMC Customer Service or your service representative for assistance and quoting this article.


With the changes, nas_checkup output display as the following:

Additional Information

Automatic file transfer feature automatically upload collected logs and or dump files to Dell EMC FTP server if the feature is enable. This automatic file transfer feature require customer approval for use and once configured and enable it uses either FTP or SFTP protocol for the file upload.

The main purpose of automatic file transfer feature is to reduce administrative in collecting and uploading collected logs to Dell EMC FTP server and to improve the likelihood of a proper root causes analysis. The logs will be gather at that time when the event took placed and not days after the event when logs may had overwritten.
