Symptoms
Data Protection Advisor is adding "-bak" to virtual machine clients hostnames and showing up incorrectly in DPA reports.
For example, in Networker the traditional client is called hostX-bak.domain.com.
However, there happens to be a virtual machine called hostX.
In Networker's nsradmin dump of all clients it shows hostX is listed as an alias to the traditional client.
type: NSR client;
name: hostX-bak.domain.com
aliases: hostX-bak,
hostX.aa.domain.com, hostX
When DPA collects the backup job for hostX via jobquery or mminfo, it converts it to hostX-bak.domain.com.
Cause
DPA does not support having 2 clients with the same hostname. This includes having the same hostname in the alias.
Resolution
Please use unique name in hostname and alias for backup clients (traditional or vm clients) that DPA will report on.
