Avamar: Exchange ItemPoint licensing error. EMC ItemPoint is not correctly licensed for use

Unable to run Exchange GLR restores with ItemPoint due to an ItemPoint license error:

"EMC ItemPoint is not correctly licensed for use".

The Exchange plugin and ItemPoint were not installed correctly.

The ItemPoint license is embedded within the Exchange plugin, so there is no need to install a separate license.

Steps to Ensure Correct Installation of ItemPoint

To properly install ItemPoint, follow these steps:

1- Install the Exchange Avamar Plugin.

Refer to the Avamar Documentation for step-by-step instructions on installing the Exchange Avamar plugin.

2- Ensure No Other GLR Plugin Is Installed.

Ensure that no other GLR plugin, such as "EMC Avamar VMware GLR," is installed on the Exchange server running ItemPoint. If such a plugin exists, follow these steps:

   2.1. Uninstall the "EMC Avamar VMware GLR" plugin.

   2.2. Uninstall the Exchange plugin.

   2.3. Reinstall the Exchange plugin and select the GLR with ItemPoint option.

   2.4. Verify that the following registry keys are created after the installation completes:

          [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CurrentControlSet\Services\avbackup\ItemPointCheckPath]
          "ItemPointCheckPath"="C:\\Program Files\\avs\\bin32"
          "ItemPointCheckDLL"="itempointcheck.dll"

           And:

          [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EMC\Avamar\AvFS]
          "writedirectory"="C:\\Program Files\\avs\\var\\avfscache\\"


If all the above points are met and the issue persists, open a service request with Dell Technical Support and reference this article number.
