Symptoms
On a VNX with VDM Metrosync replications the nas_checkup fails on passive side with:
-------------------------------------Errors-------------------------------------
Control Station: Check for sync replication health
Error HC_CS_14505083155: Sync replication environment variable is
not defined.
Action : VDM Sync replication environment variable value might be null
if there are parallel services initiated at same time.Sync replication
environment has to be set for further checks in sync replication
health to proceed.
1. Please run the nas_checkup again and check if the error is
still seen.
2. Check /nas/log/nas_syncrep.log for any errors reported
3. If the issue persists, escalate this issue through your support
organization. Provide this output and the output from any commands
that you ran for this procedure in the escalation.
Also the log file /nas/log/nas_syncrep.log will show an error:

Resolution
Check if one of the syncreplicable VDMs contains a - ( dash) in the name.If so, rename the VDM on the source side of the syncrep replication.
Example:
nasadmin@EMCVNX1 ~]$ nas_syncrep -info id=1126 -verbose
id = 1126
name = wayne_garthsyncrep-session
vdm_name = wayne_sync-replicable-vdm <------
syncrep_role = active
local_system = VNX1
local_pool = wayne_user-defined-pool
local_mover = server_2
remote_system = VNX2
remote_pool = wayne_user-defined-pool
remote_mover = server_2
consistency_group = syncrep_62_21322_61_096
session_status = in_sync
local_cg_state = Consistent
local_cg_condition = Active
remote_cg_state = Consistent
remote_cg_condition = Active
Rename the VDM from wayne_sync-replicable-vdm to wayne_sync_replicable_vdm on the active side, this will solve this issue.
Example:
nasadmin@EMCVNX1 ~]$ nas_syncrep -info id=1126 -verbose
id = 1126
name = wayne_garthsyncrep-session
vdm_name = wayne_sync-replicable-vdm <------
syncrep_role = active
local_system = VNX1
local_pool = wayne_user-defined-pool
local_mover = server_2
remote_system = VNX2
remote_pool = wayne_user-defined-pool
remote_mover = server_2
consistency_group = syncrep_62_21322_61_096
session_status = in_sync
local_cg_state = Consistent
local_cg_condition = Active
remote_cg_state = Consistent
remote_cg_condition = Active
Rename the VDM from wayne_sync-replicable-vdm to wayne_sync_replicable_vdm on the active side, this will solve this issue.
