Symptoms
- Unable to delete bucket from application end.
- Dell Support intervenes to assist with bucket deletion because of previous attempts have failed with errors and if it is decided help is required to complete the procedure.
- The bucket must by empty for it to be deleted successfully, which is by design. All objects, object versions and delete markers, belonging to the bucket, must be deleted first before the bucket can be deleted.
Cause
- Objects still exist after previous deletion attempts.
- Versions still exist.
- Dangling LS entries may prevent deletions.
- Bucket is FS (file system) enabled and ECS code does not list bucket properly, which is needed for a proper deletion list.
- Client attempts to delete s3 bucket using ECS: How to delete a S3 bucket with many objects in it and fails.
Resolution
- Be aware of the latest data access guide regarding Object Life-Cycle Management to better plan and account for data utilization.
- Search ECS Appliance Product Page for the latest "ECS data access guide" under "search documentation"
- If assistance is required to delete a bucket where previous attempts from the application end have failed, then open a service request to assist.
