The process to apply a patch differs depending on the version of Dell Security Management Server or Dell Data Protection Virtual Edition. For versioning information, reference How to Identify the Dell Data Security Server Version. Follow the instructions for either v9.11 and Later or v9.10 and Earlier.
v9.11 and Later
To apply a patch, an administrator must Enable SSH on the dellsupport
account, Stop Services, Create an SCP Session, Back Up and Replace Files, Set File Permissions, and then Start Services.
Enable SSH
- Log in to the Dell Security Management Server Virtual administration console using the
delluser
account.
Note:
- The default credentials for the virtual appliance are:
- Username:
delluser
- Password:
delluser
- An administrator can change the default password within the product’s virtual appliance menu.
- Go to Basic Configuration and then SSH Settings.
- Verify that SSH is enabled for
dellsupport
.

Stop Services

Create an SCP Session
Dell Security Management Server Virtual requires a third-party file transfer protocol (FTP) client to create an SCP session. There are several methods to do this, but one of the easiest methods is by using WinSCP.
WinSCP must be installed on a machine that has network access to the Dell Security Management Server Virtual VM.
Note:

- Your FTP client UI may differ from the below screenshot examples.
- Launch the FTP client.
- Set up an SCP session:
- Set the File Protocol with SCP.
- Populate the Host name as the IP address of the Dell Security Management Server Virtual.
- Populate the User name with
dellsupport
.
- Click Advanced.

- Click Advanced and then go to SCP/Shell.

- Set Shell to
sudo su -
and then click OK.
- Type the password for
dellsupport
and then click Login.

Back Up and Replace Files
- Go to the folder of the files that must be backed up and then create a folder by clicking the New Folder icon.

- Name the folder
Temp
and then drag the files to be replaced into the Temp
folder.

- Upload the patch files to the server and copy the patch files to the appropriate folders.
Set File Permissions
- Go to the file that you must modify, right-click it, and then select Properties.
Note: The files to modify differ depending on the patch. For more information, reference patch documentation.
- Record the original file Group, Owner, and the four-digit number in the Octal field.

- Open the patch file's Properties.
- Populate the four-digit number Octal (Step 2) and then update the Group and Owner if they do not match the recorded data in Step 2.
Note: All the patch file permissions must match the original file permissions.
Start Services
- Return to the Dell Security Management Server Virtual administration console.

v9.10 and Earlier
To apply a patch, an administrator must Enable SSH on the ddpsupport
