Symptoms

The error is displayed as below:
 

SMB Server domain join failed. Reason : [DomainJoin::doDomjoin:: compname '<computer name>' already joined to domain <domain name>' on Active Directory server '<AD server name>'. To reuse this account, use the 'reuseComputerAccount' restapi parameter to join it to the domain.]

Error: 0xE08010130007

 

Cause

This error is reported only when the below three conditions are true.

  1. Using REST API for domain join.
  2. The computer name of the SMB server is of more than 15 characters.
  3. The first 15 characters of the computer name are matched with another SMB server’s computer name.

Resolution

  • Use a different NetBIOS name while joining the SMB server to AD.
    Or
  • If reusing the existing SMB server account in the Active Directory, use the "reuse_computer_account" boolean flag set to "yes."
