PowerStore: After importing volumes from an EqualLogic array with an ESXi Host, some stale paths remain on the source array

Summary: This article details action to take after importing volumes from an EqualLogic array with an ESXi Host.

This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

After volumes have been imported and cutover to the PowerStore Cluster, the Host should automatically unmap the original volumes on the source array.  Under certain conditions, it is possible for the ESXi host to retain 'stale' mappings to imported volumes on the source array.  These stale entries can be manually removed using the procedure outlined in this article.

Issue

Stale entries for source array volumes are left on the ESXi host after successful import of the volumes to PowerStore.

Resolution

Solution

1. Use the following commands on the ESXi Host to determine which volumes are in the "Dead" state, or offline as stale entries:

[root@r109-srv02:~] esxcli storage core path list -d naa.6019cb619274d45adbd935b0a8c4bbca
iqn.1998-01.com.vmware:r109-srv02-21f95593--

   LUN: 0
   Plugin: NMP
   State: dead
   Transport: iscsi
   Adapter Identifier: iqn.1998-01.com.vmware:r109-srv02-21f95593
   Target Identifier:
Adapter Transport Details: Unavailable or path is unclaimed
Target Transport Details: Unavailable or path is unclaimed

[root@r109-srv01:~] esxcli import volume list |grep naa.6019cb619274d45adbd935b0a8c4bbca

The state of the volume is PS was offline ( vol name - v13)

2.  Update the paths on the ESXi Host for the affected volumes:
[root@r109-srv01:~] esxcli import volume update -d naa.6019cb619274d45adbd935b0a8c4bbca
Import State of Volumes updated

3.  Verify the state of volumes on the ESXi Host:
[root@r109-srv01:~] esxcli storage core path list -d naa.6019cb619274d45adbd935b0a8c4bbca|grep State
State: active
State: active
