Symptoms

This article contains information about slow performance with Microsoft Excel and Realtek's audio driver.

Waves MaxxAudio Service Application Causes Performance Issues in Excel

When you open a saved (USB, Network, Hard Drive, etc.) Excel spreadsheet, it will take 1-2 minutes before the Excel splash screen appears. This behavior should not happen if you open a new Excel spreadsheet and then open a saved Excel spreadsheet.

A solution to resolve this behavior is to update the Realtek audio driver to version 6.0.1.8142 or higher from Dell.com/Support.

Realtek Device

You can use the following method to help identify if your system has a Realtek audio device.

  1. Open Device Manager. Press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. This should open a Run Box (Figure 1).

  2. Type devmgmt.msc and click OK or hit Enter.
  3. Device Manager will then open (Figure 2).
