Summary: This article explains how to get the loading progress bar to show when PXE booting to deploy an Operating System with Windows Deployment Service.

Symptoms

No Loading Progress Bar Shown

When you PXE boot to the Windows Deployment Service to deploy an OS to install, you may not see a loading progress bar. This is because the wdsmgfw.efi on some PXE servers switch to the wgl4 font without using the adjusted resolution acquired from bootmgr.efi.

This leads to the display being mismatched while files load from the wdsmgfw.efi. So, while the booting image is loading, the loading progress bar does not get displayed as expected (Figure 1 and 2).

Resolution

To fix this behavior, you must remove the font file "wgl4_boot.ttf" under the "Boot\Fonts" folder which contains the booting image for WDS.
